the date: dinner and a movie

Tonight I put on some makeup, wore a strapless top and my favorite Tiffany's necklace, put the kids to bed, and had a fantastic date with myself. I mean it, I didn't know how low maintenance I could be! It was such a fabulous evening. I was enchanting!

I sat down on the couch with an amazing chili I cooked from scratch and some corn chips to dip in it, poured myself some nearly flat Diet Pepsi (tonights version of red wine), draped the softest blanket in the house over my legs, and watched the commentary from "Julie and Julia". I was excellent company, and didn't even talk during the movie. And afterward I served myself a hot oven-toasted marshmallow and graham cracker sandwich in the quiet of the evening....sigh. It must be love.

one hot and one sweet

Blondie and sweet yellow peppers. Today I ate up both.

the bed post

It has come to my attention as of late that making the bed is genuinely overrated...and not because it is too much work or because it will just get messed up later. It is because, when properly rumpled, a bed with all it's frothy layers looks like a drift of sweet whipped cream, and mushing your body into it (with pillow lumped lethargically over your head) is unlike any other feeling experienced since being in utero.

I am declaring an Alice day. On this day we will  we will paint all of our metaphorical roses red. We will eat those cakes that beg us to eat them and they will make us taller, and more statuesque. We will drink our drinks and they will make us smaller (in all the right places). We will find the key to all locked doors. We will swim in a lake of our own tears and come out refreshed. We will play games with no rules and we will not lose our heads. We will make friends with the mad people (since they are all a little mad anyway) and come comfortably to terms with our own identity crisis over tea. We will walk in a world that is not quite right, topsy turvy, upside down, fall down holes, grow up and down, be loved and hated, be dismissed and welcomed, fight, run, stand strong and survive. We will hold hands with vertigo. And when we wake up again and the day is over, perhaps, for no rational reason, we will wish we were back there again.

the fifth element: woman

Remember the movie "The Fifth Element" chick = the supreme being (she is the fifth element, the only being that can defeat evil) in an outfit made of stretchy bandages? bright orange hair?...aliens? remember. Well, a few years ago that hot chick (Milla Jovovich) got together with model Carmen Hawk and produced a line of clothing worthy of decorating just that supreme being: woman.Their webpage does it much better justice than just these pretty little snippets here. Check it out, fall in love.

even better...they design an affordable line for target...every bit as delicious as the original. mmm.....

ideas infinito

You know how in the cartoons when someone has an idea a lightbulb appears above their head?
This is me. This is my airspace.

the joy of blah

Waking up with a cold can be comfy, cozy, an excuse to be lazy, and downright crappy. My happy thought on monday was soup...

alot of soup.

Yes, that is my saturday morning coffee he snaked. It was quiet...everyone else had lost themselves while I lost myself in the back yard with an Anthropologie catalog (mmm...check that out for yourself) and my coffee in my favorite mug. He smells sweet and the day was newborn.

lux life or la vie en rose

This is my first blog post, a blog about the decadence dripping from the rafters of very syrupy, sappy, and disgusting of me to even mention it like that...anyway...a few inspiring things...some bon-bons, if you will...

a harsh color against pink lips, a kid wearing sunglasses in her bubble bath, a rusty red toy soldier mashed into freshly cut grass, the first gritty, somewhat spiritual deep breathe of a bag of dark roast just ripped open, the moment when a laugh turns into a cackle, eating most of the good stuff out of the Edy's Overload Butterfinger Ice Cream while standing up under the glow of one flourescent kitchen light while everyone else is in bed, the overflow of inspiration to the point where you can at any point pick a project out of the air and begin work on it without hesitation, dark chocolate and deep, dark, red wine, knowing that God loves watching me love all this stuff with a big, bright, red bliss. Ah the luxury...lux, lux, lux. It is so important to surround yourself with the silly, worthless things, thoughts, and moments that you find so extraordinary.

These are my small delicious luxuries and there is an unending supply here on earth. They are best savored one at a gentle time...too much at once and you wanna puke. Having everything you want all at once sucks the beauty out of luxury.

a simple life can be the Moulin Rouge of decadence.
