where i've been

How can it have been sooo long! I really have missed the sound of typing quietly in this secluded space. It's been a full month and since the last post I have started doing a lot of new things! I have started buying and eating local/organic,

So much nicer (and cheaper) than the supermarket!

I have created and actually found time to use my very own art studio in my home,

I have begun baking profusely as a result of our new eating habits,


Yes, these are my hands, and my homemade granola bars

...my very own peanut butter cookies, too.

I have planted my gardens and watched them not die,

and I have repainted my kitchen a hot new color...though I'm not so finished with that yet.

Now for the finishing touches.

dark things

Some people have a taste for light, airborne things, but I have come to realize that I am a dark pleasures girl. Don't believe me? Just ask my friends...they'll tell you that I will throw out a perfectly good (in thier eyes) cup of coffee because I can see through the liquid as I pour it...yes, I not only want to taste that coffee bean, but also the richness burnt into it. Lighting in my home is always turned way down for ambiance. I love me my dark wash jeans, and even my blog page needs a nightlight. Some other dark things that I have found a devotion for are:

Deep red wine

Dark chocolate

Dark hair...I always love blondes better when they become brunettes! Yes, even SJP.

Dark beer

Burnt popcorn


Black paint...it makes any room look a bit more modern. And if it's chalkboard paint, well, extra points!


Dark nails...I am loving navy blue a good bit. (but only on short nails, Elvira!)

Deep, dark, smudgy, smokey eyes...Lara Stone wears them well.

dublin doors

I bring you today a photo of the famous Doors of Dublin. While I was in Ireland many years ago, Brendan, our personal tour man, and Irish prophet at large told us a wee tale as we flew by this colorful sight in our tiny yellow half-bus packed with stinky college wanderers. When asked why the doors were each painted a bright, and distinctly different color he replied, "Well, it is well known that men in Ireland enjoy their drink, and their pubs. And as you can well see, each home here looks much like the other- so much that on some nights when the men would wander home soused from the pub they sometimes let themselves into the wrong house. Imagine waking up and finding a strange man passed out on your floor or in your bed! So they painted all the doors a different color so that the men could find their way home when the pubs close down and prevent embarrassment." Happy St. Patrick's Day!
