scrabble happy

If I tried this at home my husband would have an anxiety attack...apparently Scrabble is not the leisurely game of joy and fun to him that it is to me. He says it is like an extra 2 to 3 hours of work, or perhaps torture--not entertainment. But I find this rather adorable...and I love that couch.

Other fun Scrabbley things:

Pillows

Cute DIY wall art with your families names.

Birthday banner.

Now that's my kinda Scrabble!

Happy birthday atreyu!

My oldest son, Atreyu's, birthday was on Friday, but due to a number of circumstances beyond my control I am just now posting this for the world to see. My darling son, you are such a light, and joy, and an amazing creation. You are so important to this world, you give me faith in humanity...and you're only 9 years old! I love you eternal, and I can't wait to celebrate you this weekend. Happy Birthday!

hobos

Just a musing I was having while browsing the shops today: Considering where the name originated from, don't you think any bag with the name "hobo" attached to it would have a bit more accessible price?

Free People Vintage Leather Hobo...$348

Anthropologie Turku Hobo...$428

Saks Fifth Avenue: Prada  Nappa Gaufre Top-Zip Hobo...$1995

how does she do it

I went to see the new SJP movie tonight with my darling, dear friend, and sister. We were literally the only ones in the entire theatre, and had way too much fun being noisy and laughing out loud. I think I snorted a few times. Perhaps my favorite thing about the film was that it had heart and integrity, there's more I would say but, I won't give away the whole plot and such. I had a good time seeing it, and if you're a juggling mom with a wonderful friend the enjoy a few hours away and see it. Til tomorrow dears.

happy birthday anduin

Today my one and only daughter, Anduin, turns 7! I am gearing up for quite the Mermaid party. I just love doing everything all up for birthdays...pics to come.

So Happy Birthday to a girl who loves big, lacy, princesses and pink, and also has a penchant for mud puddles, and wrestling with her brothers. She has the spirit of a warrior and the face of a really squishy, valentine's day cherub. She is a flower, she is a fighter. I love you kid. Now go conquer that big, pink, cake!

sleepytime

Yes, this is how he fell asleep.  Isn't is artistic? Sculptural?

Are you ever so tired that you could just zonk out where you're sittin? I don't know what it is, but lately everyone around here has been so tired. Maybe it's the change of the season or just the push of the new school year, but everyone in this house is bushed these days! On Saturday, Chad let me sleep in and I didn't wake up until 1pm! I haven't done that since college! What is going on? Are any of you readers feeling the same?

paint and paper

Having two birthday parties coming up in the next two weekends has helped motivate me to pick up where I left off this summer on painting the rest of the house, and touching up where the kids have spilled, drawn, muddied, and exploded on the walls. I was in Bean There the other day grabbing a fabulous cup of heaven, and noticed their walls. They were so cool because they had this great wallpaper pattern in a fantastic peacock color. It then dawned on me, that they actually hadn't bought this rockin' wallpaper, they had painted over the existing wallpaper. Now that's courageous....and hot! Props to them for making it work with what they had and doing it well! Makes me wish I had some old paper to paint over. Oh well...onward I go!

modern movies/ vintage poster

I love vintage movie posters so I love the idea of taking modern movies and designing vintage style posters for them. I think my favorite is The Royal Tenenbaum's poster. Check out more of them here at Apartment Therapy.

what the...

For the last few days my blog text has been all pixelated and my header decided to be centered. The wierd thing is that last night when I tried to get on to fix it, the blog fairy had put everything back the way it should be. Now it's all jacked up again. Apparently blogspot is having some difficulties...and I'm a bit too perfectionist about my blogs appearance. Oh well, just wanted everyone to know it wasn't my idea to make it look crappier. :)

friday night

Friday night we got some gals together and took the Tide to a nice little coffee/ wine shop. Did you know they do poetry readings every Friday at Bean There? Neither did I. Between the girls, the poetry, and the wine, we had a fine time.

In general, acting like you've had too much  to drink is way more fun than actually having too much.

slumber party

So about my weekend...let's start with Thursday night. On Thursday night I let my daughter have two of her friends over. Who knew that little girls could have so much energy? Well they had fun. And in the morning I made pancakes with chocolate chips. Atreyu, my son, has been reading "Little House in the Big Woods" for history and in the story Ma makes pancakes in the shape of people for her children on Christmas morning...so I decided to thrill everyone and do the same.

The boys had legs and the girl's had dresses.

Try it sometime for your family. All you do is drop the batter all around the big pancake in the middle to add appendages. Flipping it will take some time to master...my first pancake girl lost her head....but no one noticed or minded much...as long as they were swimming in syrup. I happen to be very picky about my pancakes so I'll include my delicious recipe As well. Enjoy!

Pancakes

2 cups white whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oil
4 tsps. baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup cornmeal
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
mini chocolate chips

Mix everything together with a whisk except chocolate chips. Oil a skillet and add batter. Sprinkle chocolate chips on. Do not turn until bubbles form on one side. Flip for a short time so as not to scorch the chocolate. Serve on a plate warmed in the oven. Top with a bit of butter with 1 part honey and 1 part syrup on the side.

long weekend/ short post

Hey, did you have a nice holiday weekend? I certainly did! I can't believe how much I packed into four little days, and it was all so great! Even played around with my camera and had some fun with the black and white mode that I seem to never use. Don't I look just like a model in black and white? :)

I'll tell you more about my weekend tomorrow when I have a few more moments to blog. Today is packed trying to get back on track! In the meantime....how was your weekend? Leave me a comment and let me know!

banana pepper bliss

OH YuM! My dear friend Renee gave me some banana peppers from her garden and I concocted this amazing and easy version of bruscetta. Here's what you do...

I call it:  Banana Pepper Bruscetta

 Ingredients:
1 loaf french bread cut into 1/2 inch slices
4-5 banana peppers- cut in 1/2 inch slices
1 large clove garlic
14-16 oz. can diced tomatoes with the juice squeezed out
1-2 tsps. oregano depending on taste
1-2 tsps. basil depending on taste
salt
olive oil
butter
goat cheese

Make (or buy) a hot, fresh loaf of crusty french bread, set aside. Heat olive oil in a skillet and add the peppers, and garlic, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the tomatoes, oregano, basil, 1/2 tsp. salt and cook til the tomatoes are heated through. Remove from heat, set aside, cover to keep warm. Add 2 tsps. olive oil to a skillet and a tsp. of butter- let melt. Sprinkle salt over skillet (garlic salt makes this even yummier). Take a slice of bread and cook in the skillet till it's yellow and gold on one side...flip and do the same. When it's done put it on a pretty plate and top it with the tomato/ pepper mixture. Drop goat cheese all over the top...as much as you like! Eat, enjoy, repeat. Omg....it's soooo good!
